How to Makeover a Playhouse

How to Makeover a Playhouse

I'm so excited to share about our little playhouse remodel today because we just did this project on a whim a week ago while my husband was home on paternity leave and we love how it turned out!  We were talking about needing something else in our backyard to entertain the kids because sometimes a trampoline isn't enough to keep them busy and I didn't really want a big playground that would take up a lot of our backyard.

Adam was out running errands with Capri and just happened to stop into some stores to "look" at playhouses and before I knew it, they pulled up to our house with a new surprise for the kids.  Since it's so hard to find a playhouse that come exactly how you envision it to look, we decided to makeover this one.  We didn't actually know what we were getting ourselves into when my husband got it to surprise the kids, but once we got started there was no turning back.

This playhouse comes in a natural cedar wood which is great if you plan on painting it. We decided to go with all white and accent the roof and door with black.  The playhouse wouldn't be complete without adding and some features; a light oak flooring, gold faucet, white sink, and black stove top. On the inside walls, we added some hooks for hanging kitchen towels, jackets, or play keys.  If the kids were playing into the evening, we added 2 battery operated push lights on the ceiling which illuminates the playhouse very well when dark.  We then fabricated an awning over the window on the side of the house with black and white striped outdoor fabric and shelf brackets.  The counter under the awning was quite small so we extended it with a piece of wood that was cut to fit so the kids could eat or play-order at that window.

Once the house was in place where it would be in the backyard, we put pea gravel all around it and pavers up to the front door.  The finishing touches were flowers in the window boxes, wreath on the door, chairs, and lanterns outside.  We got everything finished in a week and it's been so fun seeing the kids so excited to play in it.  I love that they have a fun hideaway of their own to make memories in.
