Riviera Maya, Mexico Vacation Getaway

Riviera Maya, Mexico Vacation Getaway

The week before Valentine's Day we took off for the first time without the kids on a week long vacation just the two of us.  We went back to Riviera Maya, Mexico where we spent our honeymoon but we stayed at a different resort this time.  I was so beyond excited that we were actually making this dream vacation work and for the two of us to get to have some much needed alone time without any distractions for a whole week!  Plus we were gone for Adam's birthday so it was so much fun to celebrate him all week turing the big 32.  We didn't have too high expectations for the resort we were staying at because we got a good deal on it and when we got there we were blown away.  The Grand Mayan Vidante resort was so amazing and every day we discovered new things like another incredible swimming pool or a different restaurant with delicious food.  It's not an all inclusive resort like many people asked me, but the resort has a ton of different restaurants there and lots of pool bars and places to eat that you don't ever have to leave the hotel.  It's like you're on this little private island of paradise with everything you need.  We would switch off between the different pools and lounge areas or hang out on the beach in a cabana and one day we went out snorkeling.  The fitness center and spa were the best with a juice bar that we loved getting fresh smoothies at in the mornings.  And after dinner it was trouble because they had a gelato bar where they made fresh crepes with anything you wanted and it always sounded so good at night!  One day we saw one of the gardeners cutting down some coconuts and he was drinking one so we started talking to him and he cut us down a couple so we could enjoy them and it tasted so good out on the beach in our cabana - a fun change from our pina coladas and endless chips and guac that we indulged in.  For Adam's birthday we went to the Cirque du Soleil Joya show that they have right at the resort in this incredible theater on the water with fire dancers in boats floating around it and we were blown away.  These memories of the trip seem just like a dream right now as we are back into real life, but it was so good to get back to our babies after the trip and made coming home not so bad;)  We can't wait to go back though and would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a tropical getaway to paradise.
