Tips for Getting Healthy Glowing Skin

Having healthy skin is so important because we all want that glow.  When your skin is looking good then you have all the confidence in the world because I feel like it's the most noticeable thing on your face.  I have been through my ups and downs over the years since I was a teenager of dealing with breakouts and acne and then trying to keep my skin looking the best it can.  So I have learned a few things of what has helped me and hopefully these simple tips will help you as well.  I have loved making the switch over to clean beauty products and learning more about what makes Beautycounter so unique as the leader in the industry.  You can read more about my skincare routine here. I love how their products feel really light on my skin and natural rather than something that would clog my skin.  I am very picky about what products I’ll use on my skin and this skincare routine is incredible with a plant-based retinal in all the products that fights fine lines and wrinkles while giving your face so much hydration. I also think that adding a vitamin c serum is the best thing you can do for your skin!! There are so many incredible benefits to improve your skin as it is and to also help fight off environmental stressors all day long. You can shop the anti-aging skincare products here and my favorite vitamin c serum here.

SIX STEPS TO HEALTHY SKIN:

1 |   WASH YOUR FACE MORNING AND NIGHT  [my mom always taught me from a young age how important it is to wash your face before going to bed and when you wake up so I have pretty much been doing this since I was a teenager and I feel like my skin would really suffer if I didn't.  There is so much dirt and toxins that get on your skin throughout the day that it's so important to wash everything off, including all makeup before you sleep and so your skin cells can re-build.  Washing your face in the morning is also a great way to freshen up and start with a clean face from any germs or bacteria that could have gotten on your face from your pillow or sheets at night.  Your makeup will go on so much smoother with a clean face - and don't forget to wash your makeup brushes about once a month as well.  It's also a good idea to keep your hands off your face as much as you can.  Oil and other germs on your hands can get into your pores on your face and cause breakouts.  I love washing my face with a facial cleansing brush like this one , it cleans my face so much better than my hands alone can. And these face wipes are my favorite to bring with me anywhere to clean my skin.]

2 |  DRINK LOTS OF WATER   [I know we hear this all the time how important it is to drink about 8 cups of water a day or 72 oz., but really it is everything!!  Drink as much water as you can and it will help your body in so many ways.  Your skin is the largest organ on your body and it needs to be hydrated so when you are drinking enough water, your skin will look and feel better.  You will also feel better when you drink water instead of lots of other drinks.  I start my day with warm lemon water on an empty stomach and then have a smoothie or something after I workout. The benefits of lemon water are really great for your body, so if you have a hard time drinking plain water the try adding a little fruit to it. I always carry a water bottle around with me and it helps me to drink water if I have it right there with me. This is the best water bottle that I use everyday but my kids have these ones that are perfect for them to take around.]

3 | GET PLENTY OF SLEEP   [this is one that I'm working on by trying to go to bed earlier because I feel so much better when I go to sleep early and wake up early.  I can definitely tell a difference in my body when I am getting enough sleep or not because everything comes crashing down when I have a lot of late nights in a row.  I wake up with my skin looking so much more refreshed and clear when I have a full-nights sleep. This silk pillowcase is my favorite to sleep with because it’s great for your hair to avoid breakage and also for your skin. And when there are those mornings that my eyes are puffy and I’m wishing I had more sleep, I use these under eye masks to do the trick.]

4 |   EAT HEALTHY AND EXERCISE   [we've all heard the phrase that you are what you eat, and as much as I don't want to believe that when I'm craving some in-n-out burger, it really is true.  If you feed your body with healthy meals the majority of your day then your skin is going to reflect that and look so much healthier .  When I am eating more fruits and veggies, I feel like my skin has a better skin tone and coloring to it and I can tell my overall health is better.  I really notice a difference in my skin when I am drinking green smoothies regularly as well.  You can find a great recipe here. I also know how hard it can be as a busy mom to find time to workout each day and I think it can just be something small like going for a walk outside or chasing your kids around the park can be a workout in itself. I love mixing in some running as well as weights a couple of times a week and I’m hoping to do another half marathon soon. You can see my running guide here.]

5 |  MOISTORIZE AND WEAR SPF EVERYDAY  [as I get older I realize more and more the importance of protecting your skin from the sun.  I always wear a moisturizer that has SPF in it since we are outside or at the beach so much, I try to wear a hat as much as I can because sometimes the best protection is to keep it covered.  This daily face sunscreen is the best because it’s a mineral sunscreen and has the best clean ingredients. It's also a good idea to have makeup that has SPF in it.  This dew skin tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 in it is my daily go-to because it feels amazing on your face and gives it a pretty glow. I always put lotion on my entire body after I shower and my face after I wash it, this has made such a difference in the softness of my skin.]

6 |  RELAX   [this one is big because we all know that stress is a huge cause of breakouts on our face.  We all want to look younger and carefree without stress lines, right?!  I think to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle, it's important to find ways in your life to release your stress and just let yourself unwind, especially with how crazy this year of the pandemic has been for everyone.  We have so much pulling at us in the world from a busy work schedule with deadlines, social media that's constantly there, and so many things in the world fighting for our time and attention. I think it's important sometimes just to unplug and to take a moment for yourself.  I love having quiet mornings where I can pray and meditate while reading my scriptures.  Just find something that you can do to take time for yourself to relax - maybe some tea and a bubble bath is your thing.  I also think practicing yoga is a great way to release and relax with your body.  Also don't forget to take times to pamper yourself with massages or facials because these help to achieve an overall healthy body. This charcoal facial mask has been my favorite because the benefits of charcoal are so great for your skin - it removes toxins, fights blemishes, and helps with skin tone.]
